In 1980, Priest Canon Ray Dyson from St Cuthbert’s Church in Tweed Heads approached one of our bowling members while walking past the club one day. He kindly asked if the Tweed Heads Bowls Club could load $50,000 to build a school in South Tweed, Sunshine Road. It was 10 years earlier that the Canon helped the bowls club obtain their Liquor License after there was an outcry from two Christian Churches in the immediate area of the club. After the school was successfully built, the club decided that the large loan was to be declared a donation. And that is how the Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School started.

The Tweed Heads hospital that is located next to the club was another recipient of a generous donation, the club donated $500,000 to help build the hospital back in the 1980’s.

For many years now Tweed Heads Bowls Club has supported Shaping Outcomes in many different ways, including cash donations, fundraising prizes and BBQ lunches for the families who are involved with the program. Shaping outcomes is a non-profit community organisation and registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider. They offer flexible and personalised early childhood intervention programs and services, that build on the strengths and increase the abilities of children with disabilities or delays. Working as a team with their families and the community surrounding them to help them grow to their capacity.
The team at Shaping Outcomes celebrate the differences in each child, coordinating a service package that best suits a child’s needs and funding. Ms Amber Thorley, Shaping Outcomes Community Relations Manager said “Our programs and services are consistent with early childhood education, inclusion and disability philosophies. We utilise interaction through play and daily routines, to promote growth and development in children which create a foundation for future learning in schooling systems, and life. Teaching and helping children and their families develop the skill they need to take part in everyday activities within their families and their community”.
Ms Thorley went on to say “The support that is provided by the Tweed Heads Bowls Club makes not only a real difference to the children in the program but to their parents and families. We would like to reiterate our thanks on behalf of everyone here at Shaping Outcomes and from the children and families that directly benefited from your support”.

With Australia experiencing one of the worst bushfire seasons on record, people from all over the country came together to help the communities and affected wildlife. The bravery of our volunteer fire fighters, emergency services and animal rescue groups has been inspiring and incredibly heartwarming during this sad time. THBC team members Sandy Paxton and Vivienne Barker could not stand by and watch without taking some action to assist. Sandy and Vivienne, both wives of fire fighters sent out a call for support from THBC staff and members to help those people left with nothing.
Donations were sought for non-perishable care necessities and within days we had a room full of boxes filled with canned foods, water, toiletries, clothes, toys and linen. Doug Fuller THBC Facilities Manager dropped the donated goods to the pickup zone in Pottsville where they were transported to the affected areas and delivered to those in need. This was an enormous team effort and everybody can be very proud of their efforts. As part of a larger Bushfire appeal on Friday 17th of January 2020, Tweed Heads Bowls Club conducted a Club wide fundraiser to raise money for the NSW Fire Service, the Red Cross and Wires, with members and staff dressed in yellow and orange to show their support for our RFS heroes. All proceeds from the raffles and bingo on the day were donated along with $1 from every main sold and $1 from every schooner sold throughout the Club. Our Social bowlers got right behind the event and generously donated all money raised from social bowls for the entire week! With members and guests giving generously, the THBC board agreed to match all funds raised $1 for $1 and this combined effort saw a total of $10,000 raised.
